After years in the gas and oil industry in a management role, John started feeling the pull to return to what he truly loved, owning a business. He’d done it before and missed the freedom, control, and satisfaction that came with building something of his own.
When he connected with Marc at Franchise Empire, John was open but cautious. He wasn’t sure if he was ready to leave his full-time job, but he knew the right opportunity could change that.
We helped him explore a variety of options, and after digging into several service-based brands, one stood out: a swimming pool franchise. The model gave him the structure, support, and scalability he needed to confidently step back into ownership.
Now, John is the proud owner of one territory, and he’s back in business serving his local community of Lafayette, Louisiana. Congrats, John, your journey is just getting started!
It started back in 1969, when DoubleTree opened its very first hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona. The founders weren’t trying to build a global brand, they simply wanted to create an upscale property known for comfort, service, and a welcoming experience. Even the name came naturally: the original building had two tall trees out front, so they called it DoubleTree. That simple, unpolished decision became the foundation for a brand built on warmth and hospitality.
In 1986, DoubleTree introduced what would become one of the most recognizable traditions in the hotel world, greeting guests with a warm chocolate chip cookie at check-in. What started as a small gesture became a defining part of the guest experience, growing into a global practice with over 30 million cookies handed out every year. These touches helped DoubleTree stand out at a time when most hotels were competing solely on room rates and amenities.
The turning point came in 1999, when DoubleTree joined the Hilton family through the acquisition of Promise Hotel Corporation. That move unlocked global systems, loyalty programs, and development resources that allowed the brand to scale rapidly. Today, DoubleTree has grown into 700+ hotels, more than 158,000 rooms, and a presence in 60 countries and territories. So, let's dive into what it takes to own a hotel of your own.👇
*You should treat the values as approximated values. These values were found online through research.

Anyone can Google a franchise. But what you don’t get from a search is the real strategy, emotional support, and industry respect that comes with going through the process with a broker. Franchise buyers don’t always realize how much strategy and support go into making the right choice. In this episode, we talk about what really happens behind the scenes, from how brands treat broker-vetted candidates to the emotional rollercoaster most buyers face. If you're exploring franchise ownership, this will help you see the full picture.
Is opening a KFC franchise still a smart move in 2025? In this video, we break down the numbers behind one of the most iconic fast-food brands in the world. You’ll learn the startup costs, average sales per unit, royalty fees, and whether it’s worth the $1.8M+ investment. We also dive into the untold story behind Colonel Sanders’ rise and explore why KFC has 3X more stores in China than in the U.S. If you're even thinking about food franchising, don’t skip this.
