Franchise resales possess many benefits for aspiring business owners – established cash flow, experienced employees, systems in place, and brand awareness to name a few.
In 1984, entrepreneur David McKinnon brought Molly Maid from Canada to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to give busy American homeowners a reliable, professional, affordable solution to messy, dirty houses. Residents of the competitive university town took advantage of the new home cleaning service, which quickly expanded to communities in other states. Today, there are more than 450 individually owned Molly Maid cleaning service franchises operating across the United States. Last year, we performed 1.7 million cleaning services, 90 percent of which were for repeat customers.

Opportunity to increase marketing and obtain more customers in a sizeable territory
This is a very proven brand and an established business which could allow you to hit the ground running quickly. The owner’s role is to lead the business, NOT clean.
Existing resales with a large team can be a great opportunity for someone with management and leadership experience coming in. This could be challenging to handle if you have no management experience, or experience leading a team.
This business has recurring revenue which helps to stabilize cash flow, and you wake up on the first of the month already knowing how much money you have coming in.
Work/Life Balance- You can maintain family-friendly work hours with no on-call or emergency work.

Gabriel and Brittney attended a Discovery Day for an acai bowl franchise, and were close to pulling the trigger. They asked for help evaluating the franchise and formulating questions to ask. After more due diligence guided by our team, they decided it was smart to look into other opportunities that better aligned with their financial and lifestyle goals.
We talked through the benefits of service-based franchises that are also need-based. A Cleaning and Restoration franchise ultimately impressed them with their business model and plan, and they felt confident enough after due diligence to purchase four territories.

The Brothers That Just do Gutters provides gutter installation, maintenance, cleaning, and repair services and products to residential homes. Gutters are a need, NOT a want – gutters are not the newest fad or trend, they are a necessary product and service needed on almost all homes. If you do not have gutters or properly functioning gutters, the damage to your home can be catastrophic.
The owner does sales and manages the installers for the first 1-3 months. They order material, conduct meetings, network with other businesses, recruit and ensure their installers follow the training program. When going from 1-2 crews, owners hire a sales rep and focus on growing the team and the brand.
Below tables taken from the Brothers That Just Do Gutters 2024 Franchise Disclosure Document – Item 19. This item 19 is 83 pages long!!!! Yes, 83… Longest I’ve ever seen. A table like Table 6 below is available for every single location. There does seem to be a theme of negative sales growth from 2022 to 2023.

Have you ever been walking through an airport seeing all of the long lines to the restaurants and thought…I wonder how much money they make, and who even owns them?
Me too!
So I was really excited when I got the opportunity to talk to Randy Hazelton.
Randy and his company H&H Hazelton own and operate multiple restaurants in airports.
One of them being a shake shack restaurant.
Between all of his ownership and joint ventures, his restaurants will produce over $50 million in sales this year.
In this episode, we dive deep into how Randy got involved in this business, the barrier to entry, mistakes he’s made, and a masterclass into the business of operating airport concessions.
This was a really cool episode that I think you’ll enjoy,
Sit back, take some notes, and enjoy the show.
That’s a wrap for this week’s Franchise Empire newsletter.
Feel free to reply with any questions, or feedback. I appreciate and value your time and attention.
I’ll see you at the same time next week!
